The first thing most landlords ask us, once they understand what Landismart does, is some version of the same question.
They don't always say it directly. Sometimes it comes wrapped in other words — a little skepticism, maybe a polite "so how does the payment part work exactly?"
But what they're really asking is simpler than that.
Are you going to hold my rent money?
It's a fair question. Honestly, it's the right question. You'd be a little careless if you didn't ask it. So let's just answer it clearly, right here at the top.
No. We don't hold your rent money. Not even for a second.
Here Is What Actually Happens When a Tenant Pays Rent
Say your tenant opens the Landismart app and pays rent for the month. They select MTN Mobile Money as their payment method, confirm the amount, and authorize the payment through their phone.
That money goes directly to your MTN MoMo number. The one you set up when you configured your property on Landismart. It does not pass through Landismart's accounts. It does not sit somewhere waiting to be "released" to you. It travels from your tenant's mobile money account to yours, through MTN's own payment infrastructure.
Landismart's job in that moment is to watch what happens and report back.
We tell your tenant to authorize the payment. We wait for MTN to confirm it went through. We check the provider's response. We update your dashboard. We generate the receipt. We notify you that rent came in. That is the full list of things we do.
We do not touch the money. We track it.
The Providers Are the Ones Moving the Money. Not Us.
This is the part that's worth really understanding, because it's actually the most important thing about how Landismart is built.
When we say "pay through Landismart," what we mean is: Landismart coordinates the payment through a provider you already know and trust. MTN Mobile Money. Orange Money. Ecobank. UBA.
These are the same providers you've been using for years. The same ones your tenants already use. The only thing Landismart adds is the layer that makes it organized, tracked, and verified. We handle the record-keeping so you don't have to chase screenshots.
But the money itself? That moves through MTN, through Orange, through your bank. Not through us.
Think of it like this. When you send money to a friend through MTN MoMo, MTN is the one moving it. The app on your phone is just how you told MTN what to do. Landismart works the same way. We're the coordination layer. The providers are the rails.
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong
Payments don't always go perfectly. Networks go down. Tenants enter the wrong PIN. Providers time out. That's real life.
Here's what happens in those situations.
If a payment fails, Landismart tells you and your tenant immediately. We show the reason in plain language. Not technical jargon — just a simple explanation of what happened. The tenant can retry when the problem is resolved.
If a payment is pending — meaning it's been initiated but we haven't heard back from the provider yet — we show that clearly on your dashboard and your tenant's screen. We also tell the tenant: do not pay again while this is being checked. That's important. It protects against accidental double payments.
No money is lost in these situations. Because we never had the money to begin with. If a payment fails before it completes, nothing was taken from your tenant's account. If it gets stuck, we chase the provider, not you.

Rejoindre la liste d'attenteWhat the Receipt Actually Proves
When a payment goes through, Landismart generates a receipt automatically. Your tenant gets it. You get it. It's stored on both accounts.
The receipt shows the amount, the rent period, the property, the unit, the payment provider, the provider's reference number, the date and time of verification, and your configured payment destination.
That last part matters. The receipt shows where the money went. Your account details. Not Landismart's. That is deliberate. We want every receipt to make it obvious that the money landed with you, not with us.
Download it, share it, keep it. If there's ever a dispute about whether rent was paid and when, the receipt settles it. No more back and forth over WhatsApp screenshots. No more "I sent it, check your phone." One document. Clear information. Done.
For Landlords Managing Property From Abroad
If you're in Paris or Montreal or London managing property in Douala or Yaoundé, this part is specifically for you.
We know that handing any part of your rent process to a new platform feels risky from a distance. You can't walk into an office if something goes wrong. You can't verify things in person. You're trusting a system you can't physically see.
So we want to be really direct about this.
Your tenants are not sending rent to Landismart. They're sending it to you, through providers you already trust, with Landismart as the system that confirms it happened and keeps the record. The money goes to your MTN MoMo number, your Orange Money account, your Ecobank or UBA account. The same accounts you've always had.
What changes is that you now know instantly when it lands. And you have a receipt that proves it.
That's the deal. Nothing more complicated than that.
One More Thing Worth Saying
Landismart is being registered as a SARL in Cameroon. We're not a side project or a foreign startup experimenting in a market they don't understand. We're building a company here, with legal accountability here, for landlords here.
Part of that accountability is being clear about money. Where it goes. How it moves. Who has it at every step. We think landlords deserve that clarity, and we think it should be written down plainly where anyone can read it — not buried in a terms of service page.
So here it is, written plainly.
Your rent is yours. It goes directly to your account. Landismart verifies it got there, keeps the record, and makes sure both you and your tenant have proof.
That's the whole thing.
